Hans Köchler served as Chairman of "College-Gemeinschaft Innsbruck" (Innsbruck University Branch of Österreichisches College / Austrian College Society), Member of the Board of Österreichisches College (Vienna), Member of the Program Committee of European Forum Alpbach (EFA), Member of "Kreis für innere Formung" at the EFA, and was co-founder of the Innsbruck Branch of "Club Alpbach für europäische Kultur" (1976). In recognition of his contribution to the realization of the aims and ideals of the Austrian College Society, and in particular the European Forum Alpbach, he was awarded the Honorary Medal of "Österreichisches College" (1977). Together with Gerard Radnitzky and Wittgenstein biographer William W. Bartley III, he served as Moderator of the Working Group on Evolutionary Epistemology at the 1985 session of the EFA ("Evolution and the Future of Mankind"). From 1968 onwards, he organized - on behalf of Österreichisches College - several series of lectures and symposia at the University of Innsbruck. In the years from 1970, he worked closely with the co-founder of European Forum Alpbach, Otto Molden, supporting him in his efforts at reforming Österreichisches College / Austrian College Society, and on issues of European federalism. During the annual sessions of the European Forum Alpbach he met philosophers, scientists and authors such as Ernst Bloch, Karl Popper, Paul A. Weiss, Manès Sperber, Adam Schaff, and Arthur Koestler.
